Wiesenhof
What ENTNER means
The name says it all – because “Ente” (duck in German) is right there in the Entner family’s name. We’ve always felt a connection to this clever water bird. Ducks are honest, straightforward, and down-to-earth. They can fly but prefer to stay home. They love the water and appreciate the land. They’re sociable yet need their quiet moments.
Just like us.
Before us came the hosts who built everything from the ground up. They were calm yet determined. Welcoming yet authentic. Their children carried these values forward, and today, the fourth generation continues this legacy.
The Wiesenhof philosophy
- Less is more. While other hotels grew bigger, louder, and brighter, we stayed true to our philosophy: quality over quantity, calm over commotion, people over crowds.
- Real is better than perfect. Our floors sometimes creak. Our rooms aren’t all the same size. And Emil does as he pleases. But everything here has character, history, and soul.
- Hospitality is an art form. Not everyone can master it. It takes sensitivity towards people, respect for their needs, and the patience to understand: every guest is different, every stay unique.
- Time is precious. That’s why we give it to you: time for conversations on the terrace, time for a friendly smile, time for what routine often overlooks: life.
The Wiesenhof animals
Paula is simply part of our Wiesenhof family. Her duties? In the morning, she inspects the grounds; at midday, she rests in her favourite spot, keeping an eye on everything that’s going on; in the evening, she takes one last stroll before calling it a day.

Fluffy, featherlight, and a little elegant – that’s how the silkie chickens wander around the farm. Their plumage feels as soft as silk, which is where they get their name. They’re curious but never pushy, and when they’re not pecking for grains, they like to sit together in the shade. Children adore them – and no wonder, they really are adorable.

Harald is a magnificent stallion – tall, strong, yet gentle in nature. He enjoys standing in his paddock, watching the world go by or dozing in the afternoon sun. His favourite treat? A carrot.

Möhrchen may be small, but it has plenty of character and knows exactly what it wants – cuddles, apples, or both. Children immediately fall in love with Möhrchen; because he’s just the right size and because he wins everyone over with his big eyes.

The youngest residents at Wiesenhof are playful, curious, and still a little clumsy on their long legs. Step by step, the foals explore the world around them. If you’re lucky, you’ll see them galloping across the meadow, ears pricked and heads held high. Every day brings something new for them – just like for you.

The people behind Wiesenhof
- The Entner family today: not just names in an imprint, but real people with faces, stories, and passions. People who get up early because the animals on the farm need feeding. People who are still around in the evening when you need tips for the next day.
- Our team: some have been working here for 25 years. Others are new, but with their heart in the right place.
- Emil has quite a few tasks, such as offering philosophical advice and reminding us that the simplest things are often the most beautiful.
What we promise: that we’re there for you with all our hearts. That Emil will waddle across your path somewhere in the hotel. That Lake Achensee lies right on your doorstep. That the Karwendel massif greets you every morning (even when it’s veiled in mist).
What we do not promise: perfection by the book, standardised experiences, host anonymity, or boredom.
The Wiesenhof values
300 years. Farm becomes B&B. B&B becomes hotel. Hotel becomes a comfortable 4-star superior family retreat. Everything changes. But some things remain. The important ones.
Here is the history of Wiesenhof: not told chronologically, but on the basis of the values that characterise it.
Summer retreat means: escaping the city heat, slowing down, and disconnecting from constant availability. Breathing in crisp mountain air where nights are cool. It means consciously decelerating, feeling nature, and taking time for the people who matter most. In a world that moves faster and faster, this is what we need: a place to recharge, to unwind, and to find our way back to ourselves.
Back then: cows, manure, field work. Wiesenhof was once a working farm: honest work done by honest people.
Now: a 4-star superior hotel with a spa.
But still: honest work, honest people. The farm remains – as does our down-to-earth spirit.

- 1956: storm damage destroys the forests, timber prices collapse. The Entner family could have given up. Instead, they changed course – and invented farm holidays.
- 1967: installation of central heating to open in winter.
- 1980: the first indoor pool at Lake Achensee. Crazy! Or brilliant? Definitely brilliant.
- 2001: the wellness leap: from cosy inn to wellness hotel. Huge risk. It worked!
- 2006: 66 new rooms and a completely new exterior design. Summer retreats are back at Wiesenhof.
- 2013: construction of the unique bathhouse with innovative lowering-floor technology.
- 2020: extension of underground car park, car wash.
- Today: countless ideas for the future. We continue to build on what came before always following one guiding principle: improve, but never forget.

The daughter of German theoretical physicist, Max Planck, chose Wiesenhof as her summer retreat in 1936. If that isn’t a mark of quality, what is? The man revolutionised physics, and his daughter relaxed by Lake Achensee. Even Emperor Maximilian I fished here when Lake Achensee was still a well-kept secret. Blue blood recognised early on: this place is truly special.

300 years, several generations, one guiding thought: Wiesenhof is a family affair. No shareholders, no boards, no anonymous decisions. Every decision is made at the family table, not in a boardroom. You can feel it – in the warmth, the flexibility, the authenticity.
Each generation has contributed its own vision: the first built the foundation, the next persevered through difficult times, and the current one looks ahead without forgetting the past.

What Wiesenhof is today
A hotel that knows where it comes from. Proud of its history, yet never trapped in it. A place that lives tradition – without pretence.
300 years of evolution with one common thread: people should feel at home.
The values have remained. Everything else has been allowed to change.
