Ski tourers will find vast areas to explore in the Rofan and Karwendel mountains – one of the most popular touring regions in the Tirolean Alps. One route for example which is suitable for beginners, is the trail in Achenkirch to the “Gröbner Hals” (1.650m above sea level). This route starts off at the Christlum (skiing area) car park and leads through the “Unterau” valley alongside the cross-country tracks before gently climbing through open fields to the “Gröbner” mountain hut and the small mountain peak. Another popular or classic tour is to the peak of the “Rofan” mountain. This route can be started at the top of the Rofan cable car and passes the “Erfurter Hütte” mountain hut over more difficult terrain to the mountain peak “Rofanspitze”.
Many of the touring routes are close to the skiing areas and therefore skiers, hikers and sunbathers can easily meet at one of the many mountain huts. There are ski tours for both beginners and experienced skiers; from gentle slopes for beginners to steep slope enthusiasts.
