Cross-country skiing paradise

When regional cross-country skiers are asked where they prefer to ski, the spontaneous answer very often is “in the Achensee Region – Tirols Sport and Vital Park”. The reason is the well groomed tracks and of course the splendid scenery.

Over 200 km well groomed tracks meander through the landscapes embedded in the majestic Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges. And what makes the Achensee region – Tirol’s Nordic Centre – so unique is the variety of tracks leading along the lake or into the valleys of the Karwendel mountains. The tracks are clearly signposted, the classic and skating tracks are separated, and sometimes run parallel to each other. Easy to follow cross-country maps can be obtained in the village Tourist Offices. Some tracks in the region are prepared with artificial snow, so even if there is not enough natural snow the tracks are always in perfect condition. The Achensee region is annually awarded with the Tirol Seal of Approved Quality for their excellent network of groomed and waymarked cross-country trails.

The Achensee region also offers special practice tracks where you can practice stopping, turning, changing tracks or just gain more confidence. There are also trails for adaptive cross-country skiing. Dog owners may bring their four-legged friends along the dog trail.

Several ski schools offer courses for those who would like to learn cross-country skiing under professional guidance.
